I have had this error several times. Windows 7 is trying to tell me I need "permission from everyone" to open certain files. I'm the administrator. I'm the only person who uses this computer.
I guess as might as well start here, will you guys tell microsoft that I have permission from you to open these files? And while you're at it tell all your friends. Eventually I will reach everyone around the globe, maybe. Then windows will work for me.
read up in Windows 7 how to take ownership of a drive.
By "in windows 7" do you mean pressing f1 and searching help and support? Cause there's nothing about "ownership of a drive" in there.
If you're talking about something on the internet, a link would be lovely.
There is no "security" tab when I select properties on the folder/file in question
odds are this is not a ownership issue but trying to open system files issue. Answers are only as good as the information you provide.
How to properly post a question:
Sorry no tech support via PM's
I'm not trying to open any system files.
Its an anti-virus issue.... temporarily disable the anti virus and try again
??? What antivirus would do that??? That doesn't make any sense. I would believe a possible infection sooner and then would recommend Malwarebytes to check for it. Are you using one or more 'Users' on your system? Because one user may need permission to access files saved under another user.
Is this something that only recently began?
Are these new files or old files?
Are they files transferred from another system?
(more information may help us help you)You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
