Win7 Laptop freezes when plug to the power AC

Specs: Windows 7, Intel i5
I purchased a new laptop recently and have been having a freezing issue. When it is connected to power, within 5 minutes all running programs freeze. The task manager is ineffective and becomes unresponsive like the programs. The only thing I can do is hit the power button to switch it off. It is very frustrating because the laptop runs fine in battery mode. It has gotten progressively worse as well. At first, it would last about 45 minutes before freezing but now it's down to 5 minutes.
It's painful to see this happening with a new laptop, anyone got any suggestions???

Are you using the original power adapter?
