Win 7 -Signal lost at bootup or shortly after

Specs: Windows 7 - 64 Bit

When booting up into Windows 7 (64 bit) my monitor stops showing video either right after the initial start up screens or if it survives that it may last a few minutes before. When it does it says signal lost and going into sleep mode and I can't get it to wake up from that.

I've tried hooking up to my tv and still the same problem happens so I'm sure it's not the will randomly boot up - sometimes it won't let me get into windows, sometimes not. But even if it does, it doesn't last long.

This started only recently so I wonder if maybe there was an update that caused this.

Any help would be appreciated.

Try starting in safe mode - this will bypass any drivers and so if it starts ok I'd say it was a software problem. If it still stops working in safe mode then it's more likely to be a hardware fault - if you have a separate graphics card then make sure it's properly seated.

random boot ups sounds like software infection, follow the 1st post, run scans for anti-virus trojans etc etc, try sophos anti root kit, while in safe mode, download speedfan, and check your temps.
if all else fails save your files and reinstall your os via the hidden partition if you have one, or the win 7 dvd.
once you have done all this if you still have issues then you can start on the hardware issues.

but cant help myself....
