Specs: Windows 7 Home Premium
Have bought a new computer. Uses Windows 7 Home Premium. There is no Safely Remove Hardware icon or option for it. Have tried Customising Notification Icons etc - but the S R H option does not exist.
How can I resolve this? Would like to have the icon as a permanent option visible and ready to use.
Help needed - will appreciate any advice!

The icon will not appear until you connect a removable device. Do you have a removable device connected?

I can't believe it was quite that simple!
Being a non-technical person I'd assumed that the icon would automatically be there on Windows 7 anyway - I believe it was with XP on my last computer?
Many thanks - I am very grateful for your help! Problem solved.

An icon may have been present on your last computer. Many SATA drives were treated as removable drives even though they were fixed. This was due to the ability of the BIOS to configure eSATA drives, which are removable.

I've got a usb flash drive plugged into my brand new Win7 box. I've gone to Customize Notification Icons and told it to show all icons and notifications in the taskbar. But no "Safely remove hardware" icon.

Is that step still needed in Win 7?
