Win 7 Problems Attaching files to Gmail

Specs: Windows 7
I just purchased a new Lenovo ThinkPad T410s with Windows 7. My only problem with the machine is that I cannot attach files to emails using my gmail account. The 'attachment failed' message comes up every time.I never had any problems with this using my previous laptop (which was running Windows XP). Any suggestions? I've tried switching to gmail's basic attachment setting, and I have made sure that I am not connected to the internet via a proxy. Nothing seems to help...

Problem still happens with another user account. When I connect to the internet at a different location, I can attach files with no problem. I guess this means that it's the internet connection in my apartment, but I never had any problem with my previous laptop (Dell Windows XP). Any suggestions? Thanks.

How are you connecting at home? Wireless or ethernet?

Can you access any websites at all?

Ethernet - it's a shared ethernet connection for the whole apartment building. I have no trouble connecting to websites. I can even attach files through MS Outlook. It's just the issue with gmail...very strange.
