Hi to all, I recently raised an issue about an MBR Error 3 which was fortunately solved with your kind help.
Howewer, I just jumped from the frying pan to the fire, as I am unable to boot successfully from any boot CD, be it a Windows installation CD or any rescue disk coming from a commercial software, or even a repair CD created via the standard W7 functionalties.
Typically, I will get following message at boot time from a CD :
BOOTCD : Couldn'f find BOOTMGR
I read extensive literature on the net about this problem, which should theoretically be solved by the bootrec.exe utiity. In my case, it was not !
Somebody suggested that it might be a firmware problem on the internal CD/DVD drive of my laptop (HP from the DV7 series - drive is provided by TSSTCorp - model TS-L633N ATA).
I could not find a firmware update on the internet but, possibly. some of you might have better ideas to help me.
Anyway, many thanks in advance to all - Claude
Boot CD error : problem solved Hi to all,
I feel somewhat ashamed to have raised this issue, as I just found incidentally the solution:
I recently installed a secondary USB CD/DVD drive in replacement of a unit which had a fatal breakdown after years of faithful service!
Just by trial and error, I unpugged this unit and, by miracle, everything is fine again. I can boot successfully from any adequate CD !
I don't know why this drive created a mess, but it did !
This experience might be of interest to other people...Kind regards to all - Claude
