not according to microsoft, they claim that it is OEM software and once the hard drive is replaced Windows Activation says "the key is already in use" and they refuse to reactivate. We are having this issue in the repair shop and so far Microsoft's answer has been to buy a new license. This is angering many techies and customers but Microsoft so far seems not to care...they want more money!

well you make a bit for bit copy of a hard drive from an same model and spec machine, as they use a OEM slic and key you should be able to activate.
or you could call the manufacturer and get a cheaper install disk.

failing you could be very naughty and download the slic loader for your machine, i wouldnt recommend that because its illegal..but it is a possible scenario.

i hate computers!
but cant help myself....

What exact disk are you using to install? - you make it sound as if you are using a Home Premium upgrade disk when you actually need a full Win7 disk which will then match your original key that was for Win7 starter - that will activate & only then can you use the upgrade disk.

I hear what you guys are saying about the upgrade disk, but so far once the hard drive is replaced...of course WGA notices this and does not activate. Micrsosoft will only direct you to the antipiracy hotline.......and throws it back on the manufacturer, but once the hard drive is replaced, it is no longer Original equipment, to which the license is valid and so they only recommend buying a new license. Yes I would pull an image, but this certainly is erking alot of people and techies...second only to an unreadable sticker!

You could see if the manufacturer will load an image for you on your hard drive that will exactly match the original image and then it will probably allow you to activate it.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
