why won't Windows 7 emachines e528 boot up

November 9, 2011 at 02:49:46
Specs: Windows 7, 2 GB
The computer boots up to the Window Repair menu, does a repair job then opens up to the Windows 7 screen with no start button on the desktop. Can anyone give me a tip on what I can start with to sort it out. Thanks in advance.

Can you boot in "safe mode with networking" and get things to work? When you turn the computer on tap F8 a couple of times and it should bring up a black screen with menu options...select the above and let us know. I have not found windows 7 particularly great for it's ability to be repaired, if the automatic windows repair doesn't do it...more often than not you end up saving your stuff and reinstalling. Much like the first version of XP. see if safe mode works....I think once it loads into safe mode a box pops ups something about proceed to work in safe mode answer yes.

Hi HopperRox, Thanks. I held F8 and opened it to the safe mode with networking. Clicked on this and it goes to the next screen where I clicked on repairs. It went to a black screen for about 5minutes and then the Windows 7 screen displayed, but without the Start button, icons or the Window 7 wording on the bottom of the screen.
It keeps doing this. My friend doesn't have the Window 7 disc to upload again, as it didn't come with the computer when she bought it. Any other ideas?? Thanks

Emachines do not come with disks. They (and most manufacturers) expect you to create a recovery set form the desktop (typically 3-5 blank DVD's). Recovery disks are not designed to do repairs the same way a retail disk or a generic OEM one does.

You might be stuck taking it to a shop to diagnose and repair the system.

I have seen systems that were missing desktop icons and menus but this was mainly from virus infected systems.
