Solved why will iphone not display info in text box on excel s/s

Specs: Windows 7, intel core i7
I have a daily report which contains data that mostly lends itself to an excel format. However there is an activity summary narrative for which we have inserted a text box to make it easier to enter text and for someone to copy and paste into Word docs if necessary. The problem is that when iphone or ipad users open the excel file on their device the text box is blank. Any ideas as to why? I could use a "merge cells" for that summary area, but editing is not as easy there as in a text box.

iPhones do not natively open Excel spreadsheets for editing so you have to use a third party app to view them. There are several apps made for iDevices that will open Excel files. Most of these apps don't do much more then the very basic editing of Excel files, anything more like using macros, text boxes, etc are not supported. Do you know which app your clients are using to work with the files?

Thanks for the info. I have an iphone 4 and colleagues use probably iphone 4 or 5 and ipad. I assumed there was a preloaded app for opening excel on the iphone since I have not installed an app but am able to open and view spreadsheet attachments to emails (just won't display text box contents). Haven't tried to edit excel files using iphone - depend on laptop for that - looks too laborious on small screen.
