There is no DOS text editor in 64 bit Windows 7 because there is no DOS. The command line is not DOS. The edit command found in 32 bit systems runs under the 16 bit subsystem which does not exist (and cannot run) in 64 bit Windows.

I expect there are console based editors but I don't know of any.

Windows 7 64bit doesn't support any more legacy DOS applications and commands so they are removed as the legacy DOS-like editor Edit. Be aware the command prompt is the NT system console since Windows has no DOS at all since Windows 2000. To run legacy DOS applications under Win 7 64bit a virtual machine is needed as MS Virtual PC or VirtualBox.

Notepad is the native text editor and you can find fancy third party versions of this tool.

Just use notepad.

1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.
