Asus / Drw-24b1sta

Specs: Windows 7, 16 gb (currently says 8 gb though??)
My custom built pc is not reading a windows 7 disc but the the disc bay works. I tried changing the Boot Up priorities but it didnt work, it only gives me an option to go to the shell boot up or the SATA bootup which has not done anything so far. what am I doing wrong?

You really should list your complete system specs - CPU, make/model of motherboard, RAM, etc. I see you put "16 gb (currently says 8 gb though??)" Did you check to see if your board supports 16GB RAM? Is it 2 x 8GB or 4 x 4GB? Did you check that they are fully seated in their slots?

As for your installation problem - you need to enter the BIOS to change the boot order....probably need to press Del or F1 at bootup. Make sure the optical drive is listed before the HDD in the boot order. And make sure to save the settings before you exit. Then you will have to "press any key...." when prompted to start the Windows installation.

Start tapping F8 (boot menu) during POST.
Do you see the DVD drive listed in the bootable device menu?

If not listed, check SATA cable between DVD drive and motherboard.

If the boot menu lists the DVD drive, and start spinning after you select it, possible the disc is unreadable or the DVD drive is faulty.

If you have another desktop try if the DVD & disc drive works in that one.
