Why is my internet so slow with Windows 7?

Specs: Windows 7
I hear about many people with connection speed problems (Windows 7) when using wireless routers....
After much research and attempts by trial-and-error, here's what worked for me.

First, check to see that your connection speed is normal when connected directly to your modem (not in wireless mode). Plug in your network cord into the modem and then check your connection speed. Websites such as speedtest.net can help you check this.

If your connection is slow, check with your internet provider.
If it's normal, then do the following:

1- Change wireless router encryption to WEP, rather than WPA. (Switching to WPA2 could also help with compatibility issues for some people...)
2- Uninstall anyrouter management software that came with router (My D-Link router came with a program called “Network Magic”. It seemed to be interfering with the Windows-7 wireless software that was already installed on my laptop. Uninstalling it noticeably improved my internet speed)
3- In Control Panel/ Network and Internet/ Network Connection: Change wireless adapter settings for the router... In "Properties", unclick "TCP/IPv6"
4- In Control Panel/ Network and Internet/ Network Connection: Change wireless adapter settings for the router... In "Properties/Configure", disable Ad Hoc QoS Mode.
5- In Control Panel/ Network and Internet/ Network Connection: Change wireless adapter settings for the router... In "Properties/Configure", change Wireless Mode to 802.11g
6- In Control Panel/Power Options: Change advanced power settings... Wireless adapter settings: set to Maximum Performance (ON and OFF battery modes).

Hope this helps someone out there...

Its your Anti-Virus and or Firewall slowing you down. Try disabling it and see if it is any faster.
