Solved Why is my Dell E6400 laptop not powering on?

Specs: Windows 7
When I hit pwr on button the laptop powers up for 5 seconds then shuts down I disconnected the battery and tried to pwr up laptop ant nothing goes on. Then I put battery back on , try pwr up procedure the laptop goes on for 5 sec. without the pwr cord in.

It sounds like your power cord is bad if the laptop does not turn on with the power cord and no battery but powers on momentarily with the battery. Your battery is not getting charged so it is not staying on. borrow a power cord from a similar model to test this out, but you will probably need to purchase a new power cord. If the laptop is still under warranty, contact the mfg's tech support for a replacement.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

I have noted that many people leave their laptop and phone power cords/chargers plugged in all of the time, this not only wastes energy but also promotes these devices wearing out prematurely. If you typically do this, try regularly unplugging them and they will last longer. Another option is that there is a power strip available on Newegg from Rosewill that has the outlets turned 90degrees (to fit bulky chargers together better) and has a separate on/off switch for each outlet so you can selectively turn off everything but the ones you need at that time. I recommend this for centralized charging stations and desk top charging.

I picked up a new pwr cord and the Laptop began to charge right away. Thanks for all your help.
