What were you doing when this message appeared?

How long has it been saying this?

What likely happened was Windows 7 attempted and failed updating itself, and is now trying to go back to it's last known good configuration.

If you truly believe that the computer is stuck, it may be necessary to force it to shut down. If you don't believe you are qualified to make that call, I would suggest contacting Acer or a local computer store.

To shut it down, all you have to do is hold the power button for about 5 seconds.

First, try booting into safe mode:

From there, I suggest running various things such as SFC and CHKDSK:

Then, reboot and use the Last Known Good Configuration:

If you are unable to boot in either of these modes, you will have to boot from your Windows 7 installation disc (contact Acer if you never received one). It should have some various disk checking utilities, hopefully these will fix your problems.

If all else fails, you may have to boot from a Linux Live CD, recover what files you can, and reinstall Windows 7. Of course, if you regularly back up your computer, you can just restore it using that...
