Product Key -- Activate Windows
Start -- control panel -- at the right top corner in the search slot type -- activate windows -- at the left top a list. Left click activate windows. It will tell you quick. And let you know if you can update Windows. ----------- On the back of your laptop is your Product Key. See if it finds what jelly bean finds. Use the free download. Called Key Finder in your download section. Documents -- left column Download -- https://www.magicaljellybean.com/ke...
Jelly Bean list the product key as CD Key Don’t use the one with OEM in the number.
Have you tried contacting Microsoft about it? Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
This seems to be a rather common situation, so there should be
a standard proceedure to handle it that we could direct people to.

I went to Microsoft Knowledge Base. It says you can chat with an Expert. See what others are asking with similiar problems.

What's the exact wording of the message?
keefcranham,
You said you've had the laptop for years. Does that mean you've
been using it for years, or that it has been sitting unused for years?

hi thanks for all the suggestions i'me slowly going through them,I could not read the label under my laptop as it is to faded so I am working on getting it by another way. I will post an update later. thanks to every one that replied with help or tips,if I get my laptop sorted it will be by luck. Thanks again Keef.
The sticker on the bottom is probably different than the one that is activated if it's the original OEM install from the factory. The one from the factory is a SLP key preactivated. Several systems use the same key. Other's can explain what I am talking about better. I am sure contacting microsoft about not being able to read the original C.O.A may help. What brand is this system?
Again, what is the exact wording of the message? It may be a scam and not legitimate. Or if you reset it to factory defaults it may have gone back to a time before it was registered.
Oh and along with that, verify the date on your computer is correct. If not you probably should change the cmos battery.message edited by DAVEINCAPS
ta,i already replied but don't realy understand how to use the site properly. Keef
For any version of windows 7 or 8, Many Companies sell license to activate your operating system license. I was searching last month to activate windows 7 ultimate at my personal notebook, then I come to know, I need a product key to get license activation. I found an online Store, Now I can buy any product activation license with its label at:ODosta Store
Re #10 Not sure what happened to your previous reply but this thread is the only one that shows against your name. You normally reply at the bottom of the thread as if you were answering it (we know you from your name). This one (#10) seems to have come through so I suspect there was some sort of glitch or you didn't hit the Submit button.
Have another go.
Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
