Why does Win 7 only use 2.4GB ram out of 8GB

Specs: Windows 7
Win7 Prof. 64bit. 8GB RAM. Core-i7
windows is only using 2.4 GB of RAM but 8GB is installed. why is this?

What makes you think it only sees 2.4? Does the 8 gigs show in the bios?

Download and install this and see what it says.

Yes, it shows in BIOS and in system properties, but within system properties it says (2.4 GB usuable)

Your posts seem to disagree.

2.4 used is first post while 2.4 usable is second.

Under the page control panel - all control items - system it should have a line like this.

Installed memory then two numbers. What are the two numbers?

First, it's a PC at home. Specification is the following.....

OS= Win7 Prof
Rating=5.9 Window experience index
Intel i7 CPU 860@2.80GHz
Installed Memory= 8.00Gb (2.4 usable)

info from DEVICE MANAGER is the following.....
Computer=ACPI x64 based PC
Processors= Intel(R) Core (TM) i7 CPU, 8X860@280GHz
System Memory Usage = 2.3MB

BIOS VENDOR = AmericaMegaTrends
Bios Date = 12/07/2009
