why does not windows 7 shut down normally

January 28, 2011 at 16:10:02
Specs: Windows 7
Every day I need to hold the power button down long enough to get the comnputer to shut down. After asking windows to shut down the screen goes blank and continues to run. I have tried reinstalling, etc but am not a computer guy. This is on a labtop, new everything. Anyone have similar problems?

has it been this way since you bought it?
check the power settings, in both the win 7 and manufacturers power apps.

when you say reinstalled, did you do that with the hidden partition -factory reset- or did you use a win 7 dvd?
check also the bios power on/off settings
type reliability into the run box, see if there are messages about hung apps, etc
type event into the run box and check events for any info on why its not shutting down.

finally if its new, its still under warranty, so send it back. new things are suppossed to work correctly straight out the box.

i hate computers!
but cant help myself....
