Why does my HDD tend to makes a lots of nosie when im afking

Specs: Windows 7 64 bit, Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4 GHz/ 3.2 GB Ram
This problem had been goes on for approximately three four years from now, and i had never tried to fix or ask why. Now i cant stand this noise anymore, especially during my bed time because i tend to leave my PC on 24/7 with no sleep mode or screen protector, just the auto close-display feature with lots of stuffs opened, like browsers and MSN. The nosie does not sound like the so-called "click of death", it sounds more like something is loading. The problem is that it will definitely start to make noise after 5-10mins of afking, but when i resume back on my PC by simply move my mouse, the noise will stop, for sure.
P.S. my PC is already 4-5 years old

Configure your advanced power settings to turn off the HDD after xx minutes of inactivity.
