Check your Power Settings. The computer may be configured to turn off the monitor/hdd/go to sleep after a period of time.

Normally, moving the mouse or pressing some keys on the keyboard will wake it up.

Just powering if off without a proper shut down can corrupt Windows, so you want to avoid that if possible.

In power settings, it is OK to have the monitor shut down/go into power saving mode say after 10 or 15 minutes idle and it can be useful to have it go into sleep mode after 20 or 30 minutes idle but set the hard drive to Never shut down or you may have trouble waking the machine when it does, especially if it tries to go into hybrid sleep a short time after that. Note that whenever the machine is in either sleep mode, the hard drive is powered down anyway so it is not needed and this avoids some issues I have seen often. Note that if the machine goes into sleep modes or the monitor goes into power saving mode, a click on the mouse should wake it easily.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

I changed the sleep settings and will see what happens. Moving the mouse doesnt wake it up so I thought maybe it was the video card? thanks.
