why does my computer keep freezing?

Specs: Windows 7
Hi, my computer freezes very frequently and has been doing so a couple of months. It usually freezes a few times per day, sometime it'll be fine and go for hours and other times you have to try about ten times before it'll work.

When it freezes different screens with different notices come up, sometimes it a blue one with information i don't understand and other times it's black with the usual thing asking if you want to start in the normal mode or safe mode etc.

help on how to stop it doing this would be much appreciated!
ps wansn't sure what category to put this question in.
thanks

Run a check on your memory.

Search this site for MemTest or go to this site: http://www.memtest86.com/

Did your computer come with Windows 7, or did you upgrade? Was in a clean install or an upgrade install? Are you running a BETA or a downloaded bootleg, or are you running a legal copy?
Yes, run Memtest.
Download Speedfan to check your operating temperatures.
Download Process Explorer from MS to see what is running on your system. Try to get your System Idle % as high as you can. If you can achieve 96% -100% and you are doing really great, 50% and and under and you are not doing too good.
Report back details and what you have tried and add your system specs.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
If all else fails, read instructions.
