How do you open cmd?

Check if directories "C:\Windows\system32" and "C:\Windows" are listed in your environment $PATH variable

To check it, do this:

1. Right-click Computer and select Properties.
2. Click the Advanced system settings link on the left.
3. Click the Environment variables button.
4. Find Path in the System variables list box and click the Edit button.
5. Check/add those two directories, separated by a semicolon and terminated by a semicolon, at the front of the path environment variable. (this is a one line entry. brows carefully with the curser through the line)
6. OK out of everything.

Now, a bigger question is "What happened to the Path variable in the first place?

can you open PowerShell?
In the Start menu search bar type powershell
Click on search result "Windows Powershell"
If it stays open: At the prompt type "cmd"
If it does not work any error message?
If it works then you are in the cmd environment. Execute the commands.
