All of a sudden thousands of .dat files are showing up in My Documents. There is usually one IDs.dat with 221,861 KB, then thousands of 1-7 KB ones listed with 2-5 digits before the .dat. It's never happened before. I recently switched to Spectrum cable internet. Not sure if that's the reason. Thank You
Maybe you now have it set to show hidden files.
It could not hurt if you run Malwarebytes to see if they are being caused by malware. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
Thank you very much. I did a scan with Malwarebytes and it removed some things. I'll see if that solves the situation. I appreciate the advice.
I have Malwarebytes running and it comes up clean. Also, I was able to find out that I don't have it set to show hidden files. But, those .dat files keep showing up everyday. Just checking to see if you might have any other ideas.
Thank You
If you are fairly sure that you aren't somehow generating those files
yourself, and don't need them (which I think is a safe bet in this case),
you could delete them all and watch carefully to see when new files
are created to replace them. Is it immediately after power on? A few
minutes later? When you use a particular program? This should
eventually reveal what program is creating them, and maybe why.
Since they are in My Documents, it probably isn't Windows.

Thank you very much. I appreciate it. I will give that a try.
