I use Windows 7 Home premium and need to know why and how my file folders on my desktop will not open at all. When I right or left click, nothing happens. I have approx. 30 files on my desktop and need to access them. I need to create folders for my photos, but fear trying to set one up with not work right or allow me to access them ever again. . To be clear, I have never had this problem happen before and I use these folders all the time. Why they stopped open is beyond me.
Try system restore to a time just before this happened. This is a Windows feature and will not remove any of your own files. Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
The icons on the desktop are just shortcuts to your files. Try going to C:> users> then your name> see if the files are there. If you find them there, open each one to verify they are working. Then you could make a new folder on your desktop by right clicking an empty spot on the desktop and choose New> folder. Create shortcuts from the files under your user profile to the new folder. Verify all are working still, then delete the icons on the desktop that don't work.
