Why am I unable to print from RHELinux to Win 7 Pro? Help!

May 4, 2018 at 12:06:22
Specs: Windows 7 Professional 7601 Service Pack 1, Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6500 / 4.00 GB RAM
I'm having HUGE issues figuring out a samba printing issue...
I'm trying to print to a printer shared on a Windows 7 Pro SP1 PC from Redhat Enterprise Linux ES release 3...

Most Windows 7 PCs I don't have trouble with ... but this one is my worst nightmare!

When I ping the PC name, I get the IPv6 hexadecimal address instead of the IPv4 address...but here's the kicker... I've already disabled IPv6 on the one and only network adapter on the PC and restarted it several times! It doesn't seem to want to actually disable IPv6.

Also, Netbios is supposedly enabled, when you look in the windows settings in the IPv4 properties, Netbios is set to ENABLED... and when I do an ipconfig /all on the PC, it shows Netbios is enabled...
HOWEVER, if I do a # /usr/bin/smbclient -L -U guest... it gives...

Anonymous login successful
Domain=[WORKGROUP] OS=[Windows 7 Professional 7601 Service Pack 1] Server=[Windows 7 Professional 6.1]
Error returning browse list: NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED
session request to failed (Called Name not present)
session request to 192 failed (Called name not present)
session request to *SMBSERVER failed (Called name not present)
NetBIOS over TCP disabled - no workgroup available

And if I do an # smbtree - N -d2, it gives "Got a positive name query response from" for ALL other PCs on the network besides this one!
Other PCs on their network show all the shares on the PC with a "positive name query" with no issues... This PC ONLY shows \\SILVPC1 with no other feedback...

I've triple-checked permissions, triple-checked guest account setup, triple-checked for firewalls, internet security programs, etc... tried an actual user and password instead of the guest account... nothing has helped.

It really seems like this PC somehow has NetBIOS DISABLED... AND has IPv6 ENABLED... when the settings say the OPPOSITE!

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

I've spent too many hours on this issue.

Don't know if this is related to your problem. Could it be that the win7 PC has a disabled SMBv1 to mend wannacry virus attacks?

Still smells like a permission issue, especially since you are logging in to the server. Try providing (administrator) credentials the server would recognize.
