Weird Shortcut Problem on Windows 7

Microsoft Windows 7 home premium
May 10, 2010 at 18:10:17
Specs: Windows 7
I'm having some issues with the short cut files on my desktop. For some reason, they all open with another program. For example, if I use the "open with" option and chose a program, all the desktop icons will change to the selected program and when double clicked, will try and execute the function through that program and obviously fail. I'm not really sure why this happened, but it all started when I converted a youtube video on a website and tried to "open with" another program. Please Help!!

------Edit-----
If it helps, I went to Default Programs on the start menu, and then to file association, and the association for lnk. file is currently microsoft zune, but i can just change it by going to "open with" and selecting a program on the desktop, cause it'll just associate every desktop item except computer, control panel, and recycle bin.

Just checked my setup and it's as I thought...my lnk is set to open with unknown program. Try this:

In Control Panel pick set your default programs, then go to Zune in the list on the left (since that's what you currently have it set to open with). Select choose defaults for the program and scroll down to the lnk extension. Now untick that and press save.

I just changed some of my associations for my mp3 player of choice as I was doing this, so it does un-associate them (my flac files had to have their program reselected).

After doing that you might need to reassociate (open with) for one or more of your desktop icons to get them working correctly again.

I have the same problem. I tried to open what was supposed to be an audio file with Acoustica Mp3 Mixer but it turned out to be a shortcut. So then Acoustica tried to open all the shortcuts and failed. I uninstalled the program but then the shortcuts were absolutely useless. I tried choosing a program to open them (by Open with...) and clicked Windows Media Center.
Now I tried doing the Set-Default-Programmes thing but when I open Windows Media Center there is no lnk in its default programs.
I downloaded the register from the site that a user has posted but it doesn't work.
So please somebody help me

anastas, Did you download the LNK File Association Fix at the link I posted in my Response Number 3? What happened after you unzipped the LNK file association fix then double clicked the reg file? Did it merge into the registry, was there an error message???
