webcam and usb problem

Specs: Windows 7
hey guys, my webcam has been messing around lately, same with my usbs, before my webcam would always work when plugged in but now when i plug it in , it wont do anything, unless i keep unplugging and plugging for 2 hours until it turns on, anywaysm when i was at my friends and plugged in his ipod it charged it but didnt show it on the computer until i fooled with it, unplugging and plugging it in for a little bit, but just last night i went to try to see if anything else would work, so i plugged in my xbox controller, and it worked everytime, and still my webcam wont work, does anyone have any ideas? my webcam is a microsoft vx 2000 lifecam

You could try updating the drivers for your webcam?

If two different systems act oddly and one single one works correctly then I'd suspect some failure of the webcam. Some connector issue or wire issue. Could be the webcam is taking too much power and the xbox has a bit more.

I'd consider a new web cam.
