The hard drive likely needs replaced. You need to take the hard drive out of that machine, attach it to another computer and retrieve your data.

To err is human but to really screw things up, you need a computer!

Hopper is right, before you try to 'save' the drive or replace it, you will need to oat least try to save any personal files off the drive if it is still possible. Connecting it to another computer either as an internal drive as a secondary drive, putting it in an external case, using a docking port, or using a cable intended for this purpose and seeing if the data is available.
Once you have saved all of your files, you now need to consider replacing the drive. Obviously, if it is under warranty, contact HP tech support. You can purchase a new drive from your favorite computer store or online store to fit your laptop and you will probably have to purchase a recovery disk set from HP (unless you were smart enough to make the recovery disk set when the machine was new) to reload Windows and the basic programs that came with it. Of course if you were very smart and have an image of your hard drive already made, you just need to reimage the new drive from that image and reload your most recent back up. If you are reloading from a factory recovery disk set, then you will need to set everything up again and install any programs again that you had installed.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
