W7 stuck in loop of extracting .exe file converted from .jar

November 6, 2016 at 07:35:57
Specs: Windows 7
I downloaded a .jar file and am trying to switch it to .exe. I used IZArc and managed to extract a file that was registered as an application, but I get stuck in a loop of extracting and installing it whenever I click on it.

I don't use IZArc, I use PeaZip. Try changing the .jar file extension to .zip, right click on it & then click extract.

IZArc is not working for me right now, so I downloaded PeaZip and changed the extension. When I extract it, though, it just pulls out a bunch of folders and information I don't think I need (but I suck at working with technology, so who knows). What I really want is just the executable file.

It would help to know what you're trying to extract & the purpose. Do you have file extensions turned on? Maybe whatever it is you've unzipped doesn't have an executable?

File extensions should be turned on, yes. I'm trying to extract a software that's really just a program to organize data. The file definitely has an executable, though; that's the whole point of it. Seems like I might have to give up on this, anyway. I've never had this problem before, but oh, well. I have alternatives. Thanks for responding and trying to help me out, though! I really appreciate it.

Depending on what you're trying to install there may be a README file with the download that tells you how to get it started.

The 'folders and information' you think you don't need, well you probably do need them. Don't assume you only need that one .exe file and nothing else to run the program.
