W-7 Backup/Restore Does Not Give Access to Time Settings

May 27, 2012 at 10:35:21
Specs: Windows 7
Why does Change settings in W-7 Backup & Restore start a backup rather than show backup settings? I want to change the scheduled time the backup is run, which is currently Fridays at 9pm. But when I click Change settings an automatic backup begins, and I get no access to settings of any type.
Backup device is an Ext. Hard Disk, and all else seems to work OK.
Is there another way to change the scheduled time?

Look in task scheduler, start>all programs>accessories>system tools>task scheduler
or in win 7 you can type task scheduler in the search box and it will show up.

I tried that prior to posing my question. I found the task listing for this site, but no way to change time. Were you able to do so? If so, would you tell me how? Thanks!

Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Backup and Restore

Hang up and live.

Sorry, this does not work either. I have no System and Maintenance choice in my version of Windows 7 (as mentioned in the link you gave). In the Control Panel I have a System icon and a Backup and Restore icon. Neither of their windows has any selections to enable me to change the setting time for a scheduled Backup.

The only thing that happens when I click "Change settings" in the Backup and Restore window is to start a backup; that choice acts just like the "Backup Up Now" button.

Again, my question is: How do I change the default scheduled time of Friday, 9pm to perform a system Backup?

ok as has been mentioned "Backup Restore" in Control panel, when you go through the menu's one of the last one's allows you to "change scheduling". When you create the schedule, windows creates this task in task scheduler (not Task Manager) which runs the back up on the selected schedule. When you use Back up Restore, when you see the screen "review your back up settings".....there is blue printing near says "change scheduling". You may also go into Task Scheduler and edit these settings.

in Control panel switch the view to large icons or classic view and you will get the other categories people are mentioning.

Response to HopperRox: The words "change scheduling" and "review your back up settings" in your #5 response do not match anything that is shown in my Backup and Restore window.
Also, re your suggestion in #6, I already had Large Icons showing when I listed my request.
I think you must have a different version of Windows 7 from what I have, so what you have written does not apply to my situation. Thank you anyway for your suggestions.
