Volume Ctrl icon disappeared from its place next to the clock. I noticed the anomaly when I tried to raise the volume. The last adjustment I made to the volume before this happened was to a low volume. Now I can't raise it back up.
I have looked and looked but can't find anything. Any ideas?

Click on start orb and in the search box type 'volume'. One of the first results under Control Panel will be 'show or hide the volume control' - give that a go.

Show or Hide did not reveal the icon but the second one on the list, "Adjust System Volume", did the trick. I just raised the volume a little and the task-bar icon appeared.
Problem solved.

Another volume question:
When volume is turned all the way up, I'd like to get a bit more volume. Is it possible without getting additional speakers with an amp?
