Verizon email not opening attachments windows

Specs: Windows 7 Professional, intel/4 GB
Verizon email does not open simple .doc Word attachments, or other simple attachments, (.pdf, .ppd) system displays a new tab (IE8) saying connecting, but never opens and just continues to say connecting. Running Windows 7 Pro on a brand new HP touch screen system, plenty of power and lots of memory. Also, system has strong wireless connection while this is happening, other web pages can be opened. Any ideas on the cause? My best guess is a security setting embedded somewhere inside the Windows 7 security, but haven't been able to find anything that releases the attachments.

Do you have the programs installed to view files with those extensions. Adobe acrobat reader and microsoft Word.

Yes, the adobe is installed and upgraded to latest version and Office 2010 with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc... Installed and opens everything as it should. It's just the Verizon email program that seems to have the issue. Or, the issue is with the security setting for Windows 7 Pro or IE 8. Any suggestions, or ideas greatly appreciated.

I'm not familiar with Verizon email. I'm assuming you have to check that from their web page. Check the security settings in the mail program. It could also be a file association setting in the mail program. When it goes to a web page, it's usually looking for a program used to open the attachment. Have you set up Windows Live Mail. it's a great email program that allows you to manage multiple accounts.
