Solved Utility/method to bulk shorten folder names Win 7?

February 23, 2014 at 01:10:33
Specs: Windows 7
Hi, I have a large number of folders. I would like to search through them and replace some long names that appear in these folders as they cause the path to become too long.

For instance, they all have, in part, the path Appdata\Local\Microsoft\Outlook. If I could search and replace that with, e.g., A\L\M\O that would save me 25 characters!

Thanks for any thoughts on this.

I have already tried some of those, including Bulk Rename Utility. It does not go through a folder hierarchy and rename. You need to select files for renaming.

What I need to do is rename dozens of identically named file hierarchies.

Those utilities seem oriented towards cleaning up a single directory of, say, .mp3 files.

You probably need a dos man.

I would have thought one of these would do the job.

Peter's Renaming Kit sounds promising. Thanks. Will try it tomorrow.
