Specs: Windows 7
I have a fairly new ASUS Laptop that I have been using the Default Admin Acct.. up until about almost 3 months ago when I set up a New Standard User Acct. for my bf everything was fine till about a month ago when he was on his acct. and while opening up files/programs on his Desktop
he accidentally opened up a music file and his and turned all his other programs and files into the music file, it still has the name of the progam/file except for the fact it wants to play when you click on it, so we tried going to each one and going to the properties and trying to change the icons back to original state, well of course that did not work and it became so frustrating trying to get on the Intent that we decided to delete the acct and start all over again making a new acct.!! Well he tried to logon to the acct. when he gets an error msg. stating "User Profile Service Failed User unable to logon"!! PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!

the first thing to do would be to log in with the working default admin account. and run a system restore to a date before things went wrong.
if that fails:
then delete all entries for the two failed account, c:/users only keep the good user account.

then run a full anti virus scan, also download and run malwarebytes, (its free).

reboot the machine and attempt to create a new account.
should the new account fail, login with the admin account, save all your files to an external drive and run a factory reset, this will delete the current c;/ and reinstall your machine to the same state as the day you bought it.

then you should be able to copy your files into your account and everything will work as new.

generally to recover via the hidden factory restore on an asus laptop you will have reboot and tap the F9 key this will lead you into a full factory restore, however if F9 fails it will be another F key, depends on model, you can find this in your manual.

but cant help myself....

Thank you for the advice, as i will start some of these steps.....I have tried system restore after his desktop files were all messed up, but that did not help at all, so that is why I decided to go ahead and delete his acct., thinking Id be able to set up a brand new acct. for him. which i have made others as well and they worked (they are no longer up though, I have also tried to go ahead and create a system repair disk but It did not seem to work, as well as i have tried to make a factory state backup,, so that I would be able to reinstall with the disk but that did not work, since Asus only gave me a recovery dvd and not a Winds 7 installation disk. so I since i have been backing up and not really adding any more programs that i would have to reinstall my self I deciced to do the factory restore.....Fingers croseed it works, and works well, thanks!!

it should work and work well.
once you have restored your system, take the time to install all your fav programs, delete stuff you dont use, restore your files and then, you can make a repair cd.

Then create an image of your perfect system, and set the backup, best to do that on an external drive if you have one, or a second partition at least.

once all that is done you can create a standard user account for your bf, but dont give him admin rights..after all you want to keep it running this time.;-)

if it messes up again, you can drop in the repair cd, and point to the image on the external drive and within 30 mins your system is all up and running again in perfect state..:-)
you can download a recovery/repair disk from here if you have any problems.
