USB mouse not powering down

September 26, 2010 at 01:19:30
Specs: Windows 7
I am running Windows 7 with a USB mouse that has LED lights on it. When the PC is shut down, the mouse does not turn off...which tells me there is still power at the USB. How do I avoid this? I feel it is a windows 7 problem because it did not do this with XP.

You would be correct. There is power to the usb port even when the computer is off. It's not really a malfunction. Some systems have this feature to enable you to use the mouse to power on the pc. Check the settings in advanced power management in your bios to see if that feature is enabled. My mouse light is on constantly too and comes in handy as a nice little night light :))

So if I disable this feature, the lights will go off? I don't need the power up with mouse function. Cheers.

Tried the suggestion....didn't work. Might just invest in a mouse without lights, that will "hide" the problem. ;-)

"you could just colour the light emitter with a black pen"

Thus rendering the mouse completely useless.
