Unplug all USB devices to see if this helps. If so plug them back in one at a time to find out which is the culprit.

Please do not post then vanish - let us know the outcome

Just clarify, "Unplug all USB devices....." really does not mean keyboard and mouse since you could not operate the computer without them and you could not use them again after plugging in again until after the system is restarted again. If you suspect a short in either the keyboard or mouse, you will just have to try borrowing a different one for testing.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Err... no, I didn't have USB keyboard or mouse in mind (although it would still prove the point if the symptoms changed dramatically on booting). Rebooting again with them plugged in wouldn't be a big deal if they proved innocent.

It should boot without usb keyboard and mouse.

Some usb device is bad or usb slot is bad.

I have known short circuits due to contacts touching in USB sockets but best to make sure it is not a device that is plugged in first. If it comes to it, sockets can be isolated by disconnecting the cables on the motherboard.

I assume JENSEN in still with us....
