UPS email; Computer shut down.Total power failure!

Specs: Windows 7, Pentium i7.; 6 g
Accidently clicked on UPS email, but did not open the download; (Clicked discard). Downloaded Symantec update and started a scan; no viruses were immediately found, but a few minutes later with the scan still in progress the computer shut down – total power failure, and will not come back on! (Sony Vaio Laptop)

I think the total power failure on your laptop was just an unfortunate coincidence not connected with a virus or with Norton.

If it won't power up from either battery power or a/c power you will have to take it in to a laptop repair centre.

did you try tapping f8 on bootup and selecting safe mode with networking?
