Check the Windows compatibility test. It will tell you whether your present system will run Windows 7.

One thing you will most certainly need is at least 1Gb of RAM.

Also, is there a compelling reason for the move to Win7?

XP support will probably end in the near future.

I have upgraded many XP machines to Windows 7. With the proper amount of ram and cpu they run great....much better and faster than XP plus win 7 will be supported for many years to come

The Dell system mentioned can have a max of 2GB ram and that will run win 7 fine.

Some HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions Cheers

"XP support will probably end in the near future."

Possibly. But given the current rancid economic-state, and that as of 10 months ago XP was still running on 74% of business machines, I wouldn't be surprised to see that target date moved again:

The adoption of Win7 seems to be more popular with those currently running Vista vs. those running XP. And it's not likely that Microsoft would want to lose a large part of it's base to OS X, or (heaven forbid) OpenSource.
