Specs: Window 7, 4G
Hi all,

I'm having problem with Window Defender in Win 7. I notice it was not working although it had been in the past

When I click on Window Defender, it displays the window with the title "Service has stopped"

"A problem causes this program's service to stop. To start the service, click to start now button or restart your computer"

I clicked on "Start Now" button. the Window Defender was hung until I used Task Manager to stop the process.

I restarted the computer but this did not solve the problem.

Any help appreciated.

Best,

TN

https://www.malwarebytes.org/lp/lp4...
Use the Free Download link
Uncheck the Free Trial during the install

You may not need it right now but it cannot hurt and it is a good program to have. The free version only runs when you want it to manually and is a good double check on your antivirus program. Many people run it regularly probably once a week or two and when they notice something unusual with the machine.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Do a system restore to a few weeks before anything was unusual on the system, use 'show more restore points' as needed.
As soon as the system restore completes, install, update, and run Malwarebytes to be sure that malware was not the cause. Remove all it finds and post the log here for review.
Update your antivirus program and scan.
Check to make sure Windows Defender is working.
