Which password is this?

Normally the only password that can be reset with a disk is the Windows password but that needs to have been made before the problem occurred,

If it the Windows password and the reset disk doesn't work then the only option is to do a factory restore or reinstall windows. You will lose all you data but that shouldn't be a problem as you haven't used the computer for several months

Hi Stuart
the password needed is my password for access to the computor itself. without this access i will not be able toeither do a 'factory restore' or 'reinstall windows'. As you say, losing data is not a problem.

Is this by chance a laptop and you are you mean the hard disk password. If that is the case the here is no disk that will reset it, despite various web sites claiming that they can.

Your only option is to contact Aceer and see if they can help and be prepared to prove ownership. Hard disk passwords on laptops are a security measure because they are so easily stolen and are not easily circumvented,

Thanks for your interest - problem just solved by selling 'ACER' to someone who can deal with the problem.
