Unable to open gmail pages

Specs: Windows 7
unable to connect to Gmail page
Good afternoon, (I think )
Long story..... Starting mid day yesterday, my laptop running Win 7 will not load the gmail page. It just sits and blinks on the address bar and status bar. I called my ISP and they think it is not a problem from their end because my XP desk top accesses it just fine. Also on the laptop, I can d/l message through Windows Live Mail, and can also access it using a proxy server.
I have done,
ipconfig
remove/reinstall IE8
done safe mode "last known good configuration"
emptied all temp cookies cache (internet options and temp files on C drive)
Tried disabling antivirus and firewalls.. no help.
Also, it does this on the 64 bit and the 32 bit both.
Does anyone have a suggestion as to what else I might try?????

Thanks Guys/Gals
Vicks

"remove/reinstall IE8"

Did you try a different browser like Google Chrome or Firefox? See if they work with gmail..

Did you just try resetting IE instead of uninstalling it?
Which AV are you using?
Is it maybe blocking gmail?

XpUser4real
Thank for replying so quickly

I have not tried a different browser as yet. Using AVG (new install about a week ago for the 2011 edition)
I have done,
ipconfig
remove/reinstall IE8
done safe mode "last known good configuration"
emptied all temp cookies cache (internet options and temp files on C drive)
Tried disabling antivirus and firewalls.. no help.
Also, it does this on the 64 bit and the 32 bit both.

did gmail work before you installed AVG?
Here is how to reset IE
open IE, click on tools/internet options/advanced and then click on reset.

Yes, it has been working both before and since the new install.
My ISP had me do that reset this am.

So you are saying gmail worked AFTER you installed AVG?

As I posted in original post " Starting mid day yesterday" The problem started.
I installed the AVG 2011 on 10/15 and it had been working fine until now.

I finally was able to fix the problem:
I did the following:
Ran Mcaffee removal program 2 time (rebooting each time)\
Did system restore in Safe Mode (antivirus blocked restore in normal mode)
I uninstalled AVG 2011 free and installed Avast (free)
Everything seems to be working properly now.
Thanks for your input.

Avast free is an awesome choice!
Now make sure you remove all of McAfee using MCPR.exe from their website or nothing will work on the PC.
Hopefully you have all of AVG uninstalled also.
