Unable to install winows on lappy but Linux

Specs: WIN XP, 1GB
Hi guys,
I am facing a wierd problem on my laptop.

I am trying to install windows7 on it, but at the time the windows installer GUI loads, I get a "Memory Parity" error.

I tried a different CD, same thing.
I then tried to install winXP, same thing.

I wondered if there is a problem with RAM.
I then inserted the Ubuntu 11 CD and started the memory test, it said RAM has no errors.
I then installed Ubuntu 11 on my lappy. It worked fine, no errors.
At this point I thought it may be hdd which Ubuntu corrected by formatting the drive.
I then tried to install Win 7 again, same error again.
I have also tried to install RHEL 5 and Fedora 15.
To my surprise Linux works just fine, but is not able to install any flavour of Windows.

Can anyone point me to the right direction as to what is wrong.

Thanks,

Naman

Run the W7 memory diagnostics test.

Not a good test to compare two OS's. They don't exactly use the same parts the same way.

Ridiculous rant ahead.
I don't care for the term lappy. Makes it sound like a pet animal. Hello lappy. What to go for a walk lappy. It is just a machine!!!

1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.
