About two hours ago all the desktop icons froze. Everything else is working fine. I can get one time use from the icons by clicking on "Show the Desktop". After that they are all frozen again. I can open all items the icons are connected to by other paths or continue to click the show the desktop, but it is a pain. When it happened or I noticed it, we were watching a video. The kids wanted another one started and that,s when I found the problem. Nothing new or was changed to the Windows 7 OS on this PC either right before or after the problem surfaced. Two different restore points were tried and made no difference. I am very familiar with Windows 7, Vista and XP, so I am aware of the normal everyday settings to whatever hidden ones that maybe contained in the OS's. But I am always learning and obviously do not know everything, I must of done something wrong. I also ran Malwarebytes and Super Anti-Virus in both the safe and normal modes. Aside from some unrelated stuff nothing was found to help. I have five kids who all have computers with either XP or Windows 7, so I am constantly maintaining and/or fixing their systems. If more info is needed just ask, not sure what else to add. I do have a backup I can use but would rather not unless I have to. Thanks in advance. dave

type in run, sfc \scannow.
if that fails install your backup, its easy takes only 30 mins at most and saves you hours of stress trying to locate a problem which may just be a damaged file, or registry entry gone wrong..

i hate computers!
but cant help myself....
