Trying To Find Printing Defaults in Registry

August 21, 2012 at 21:30:19
Specs: XP\7
I have a printer that I would like to export the correct printer settings and the import the printer settings periodically to ensure that the settings do not change. I have found the printing preferences in the registry, but what I need to find is when I right click then click where printer then click properties, click the advanced tab, and then click where it says printing defaults.

These are the settings i would like to export from the registry but i can't seem to find them. Any help would be appreciated.

I don't see the point. printing defaults will only change if you or someone else changes them in the printer driver.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers\DevModePerUser\<Printer Name>

Export that value and import it in the future. It's binary, so I wouldn't recommend editing it directly.

This doesn't appear to be the registry key i'm looking for. If I make the settings correct and then export them. I can then go and chage the settings and then import the settings and nothing changes.

"Does anyone have any other ideas?"

You mean other than not doing anything?

I agree with phil22, I don't see the point. Do your printer settings have a habit of changing?

This worked for my printer, maybe yours additionally keeps the settings somewhere else. I used regshot to determine where the preferences were changed on my computer, you can do the same if your printer's different. Take the first shot, change a preference, then take another shot and then compare.
