Trouble with FamilyTree Maker requiring Net Framework 4

March 9, 2013 at 18:41:46
Specs: Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit, 3 GHz / 1919 MB
I was installing FamilyTree Maker when it faiied to install. The installation log showed that MS NET Framework 4 was required (error 0x8070002). I went to a MS site and attempted to download the Frame work file and recieved the above error. I then followed MS directions to 1. Stop the Windows Installer service 2. Rename the folder Softwaredistibution to SDTemp and 3. Restart the Windows Installer service. Then try to download the Framework program. Again a failure to download. Tried all this twice. Apparently I need that file to install FamilyTree Maker. Any ideas?

Do not Run the download it and Save it as a file. You can then check to ensure the downloaded file is the right size. If so, double click it to install. This way it will prove whether you have a download issue or an install issue. Best practice anyhow.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Did that,- Eric. It appears to be a install problem. How do I know what size it should be?

Was the file "dotNetFx40_Full_setup.exe" (869 KB)?

Did you get error 0x8070002 when you tried installing it and was there specific file mentioned?

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

You can get all of the .net Framework's by going manually to Windows Update (Start>All Programs>Windows Update) and looking under the optional updates. Check off the ones you want OK it and proceed to install.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
