old computer running xp (32) need to transfer all apps and files and data to new desk to running windows 7 (64) how to do it

For files, you could use a flash drive and copy them over. For applications you will need to install them on your new computer.

Exactly. Files you can transfer, programs need to be installed. A few may not be as easy to run under W7. If this happens try installing under compatibility.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

You convert the old install to a virtual machine.

Microsoft has a migration tool which may help you out somewhat. It is called easy transfer.

Transition from 32-bit to 64-bit, even from 32-bit W7 to 64-bit W7, let alone from 32-bit XP to 64-bit W7, you have to re-install the programs that have their own setup routines, I guess. For standalone programs -single .exe programs or the ones in separate folders with its own subroutines, you can just copy them over. After copying, you must test them for correct operation.

For programs that control hardware, such as a TV card, the program must incorporate 64-bit drivers, as well along with a setup routine.
