Toshiba L645D screen rarely lights up.

February 29, 2012 at 00:00:37
Specs: Windows 7, AMD Turion(tm) II P520 Dual-Core Processor 2.30 Ghz
A free audio program I had just downloaded froze when working. Had to shut down illegally. It now takes dozens of tries to reboot; powers lights go on, but no light on screen. Have uninstalled program & run scandisk on reboot. It does boot on "Restart." Have tried both with and without battery. So far, it always boots eventually.

System Restore to a time prior to install of the Software.

Googling is quicker than waiting for an answer....

Thanks, but I tried System Restore. I found one restore point, to a Windows Update a few days before. It went through the whole process, rebooted OK, and then I got a message that that System Restore had not completed successfully. Tried again twice, to earlier points, deactivating Avira antivirus. Still unsuccessful.

As a last resort, you may try Factory Restore to return your computer to the time you bought it. But then you have to redo all Windows updates and program installations.

Asante sana! Thanks for reminding me of one of my darkest fears. But it may come to that once I know everything has been backed up.

thats a little bit odd, the thing is know what u download before actually downloading it, or download the program from a trusted site. this may have been a virus. and shutting down illegaly made the thing worse shutting the pc illegaly may cause damage or power failure to ur pc. if i were u i would do a repair installation of windows

It was an audio joiner from ShuangSoft. Their products "look" clean. Before I decide to follow your good advice, I'm going to leave it running and finish as much work as I can. Thanks for your suggestions.
