During a google look I noticed that there have bee. Some changes in how they handle mail. I presume that you have already ensured that you reset things up correctly?

on another note, for the other complaints I was seeing the error seems to be through bt, vs thunderbird. So if setting things up corectly doesn't correct it, you might contact the provider that you are paying through, and see of there have been server errors.

Thanks for the help. I tried most things, having used computers since 1970s, at aged 80+ I am not a beginner but also not an expert. The 'fault' righted itself overnight so I guess it was some sort of server/isp problem. But thanks for giving it prompt attention Mike.

Glad it fixed itself, most of what I found online said that the error code given was due to a server error, so that's what made sense.
