The power light keeps blinking and the harddrive light is on

Specs: Windows 7 starter edition, AMD 2400 1.67GHz/768MB
Why would a computer take hours and days before a display? When the system is turn on very ofter the power light keeps blinking and the harddrive light is on but nothing shows on the monitor for hours or days and may not at all. Powering off and re-powering rarely helps it just have to be left alone and comes on whenever if ever.. Thanks for help

Try a new signal cable from PC to monitor.
If no change, try a new graphics card.
If still no change, test the hard drive with "Seagate SeaTools for DOS".

The download is an ISO file, so you'll also need to install "IMGBurn" from here:
http://filehippo.com/download_imgburn/

Use IMGBurn to create a CD from the ISO file, then boot your faulty computer from it. The testing program will open. Select the hard drive and test it. If it fails the test you need to replace the hard drive.

If hard drive passes the test it's okay, so test the RAM modules with "Memtest86" which is also an ISO file, so you need to create a CD from that too:
