Task Bar settings change sporadically or do not work

Hewlett-packard / PAVILION

Specs: Windows 7, Intel Pentium D 925
I have two problems with the Task Bar. When I set a Task Bar Icon to "Show Icon and notifications" in time it will revert to "Only show notifications". The second problem is I have one Icon that is set for "Only show notifications" and it does not do so.

Thanks for any guidance you can give me. Uncle Dewey

I realise this is no help but I'm afraid Windows seems to have a knack of losing those settings at times and I'm not convinced anyone has ever pinned it down. MS bug maybe. This google hit might be of interest:

What icon (program) is it that won't set?

Both problems have to do with Juno off-line. I like to have the Juno Icon always available. Also, Juno notifies me when there is new mail on the web, so I can download the new message(s)--Juno has an Icon for new message alert. I'll check out the reference soon.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with Juno. I gather from what you are saying is there are two icons, the problem one being for email notifications. I've had a scout round and can fine nobody else discussing the symptoms you describe. Of-course that could just mean they are living with it.

Has it always had this issue? If so I suppose this particular symptom could be a problem with the Juno program rather than Windows generally.

I was unable to unearth a "Juno email forum" (which might have been better able to help you) but I did find this:

Might be worth trying your luck.

Many (most?) use Juno only on the net, while I download all my messages to Juno off-line and manage them on my computer. If anyone is interested I could expand on why I manage my e-mail messages off-line, but it would take me awhile to do so. You are right, it could be Juno--I'll have to put more Icons in the Task Bar as I have only one other which has changed notification, but not very often.

"I could expand on why I manage my e-mail messages off-line"
No need, it's your choice. Leaving Juno aside, lots of folk do that, including me. If there are not very many folk who use Juno off-line it could be the reason there's little online about icons issues and so forth.

On the general notification subject, Windows sometimes has to be un-told and re-told before it remembers various settings - no idea why. Might be some scope for trickery there.

Otherwise I'm out of ideas but keep watching in the off-chance that someone drops by who uses that off-line Juno setup.

Hey Derek,

The first reference had me looking at the "Taskbar & Start" menu. There is an option to "Lock" the taskbar which sounds like it might be what I needed as mine was not locked. I tried to find info on using the Lock feature, but could not find anything. So I will wait and see if one of my problems is corrected. My memory has me thinking Juno told the new mail icon was a known problem--I'll have to check my saved Tech. Messages.

Thanks again, Uncle Dewey

Would you believe I found a e-mail message folder strictly for the "new e-mail icon"? I first reported it in 12/2012 and several times since. It is obviously not a high priority problem for Juno. {:-(((
