Solved System 64 versus System32

Specs: Windows 7, Intel Pentium D 925
My HP 500-281 is supposed to be a System 64-bit, but it is a System 32-bit. I have no idea how it could have changed. I get Windows 7 updates for System 64-bit, which always fail to install.

How do I get the System back to 64-bit as stated in the the PCs specifications.

✔ Best Answer
Click Start, right click on Computer, then click Properties. Look under System. What is listed for System Type? 32-bit or 64-bit OS?

Very interesting! It shows I have 64--bit system. More careful reading would help. In "run" I entered "msinfo32", and saw System Directory which was a C:\windows\system32. But System Type is x64. This all started as I have one Windows update that will not update. I have a thread somewhere that addresses that issue.

Thanks one whole bunch, Uncle Dewey

That system32 directory is quite normal on both 32 or 64 bit machines.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
